Welcome back to the Right Up My Street Blog! I’m excited to share a journey that’s incredibly close to my heart. Join me as we dive into supporting a remarkable venture into the world of online entrepreneurship!
To give you a bit of background, I was born in Mogadishu, the capital city of Somalia. My family made the decision to relocate to the UK, escaping the hardships of war. Through life’s trials and tribulations, I’ve learned to transform challenges into sources of strength and resilience. Growing up in the UK, surrounded by the safety and comfort my family fought for, I’ve come to cherish life’s blessings deeply. I firmly believe in the power of lifting others, enriching not just our own lives but our entire community.
In 2021, during a visit back to Mogadishu, I witnessed how my family who remained in Somalia were living, especially Faiza’s incredible journey firsthand. Faiza is my aunt from my mother’s side, she’s a few years younger than me. She is the oldest child in her family, and the strongest person I know, excelling at everything she does. Despite the difficulties of Somali politics, Faiza’s unwavering determination pushed her to achieve an amazing milestone: graduating as a lawyer—being the first daughter in the family to attend university in Somalia. Her journey and achievement not only fill me with immense pride but also symbolise hope for positive change for many women in Somalia.
Researching the local business needs to make a livelihood for the family, I returned to the UK with a mission. Upon my return, I made a promise to support Faiza by any means possible. So, in December 2021, I had the honor of assisting Faiza in launching an online business, Boqoradda, meaning “Queen” in Somali. Boqoradda is more than just an online shop; it’s a platform dedicated to celebrating and empowering women across the nation and beyond. Being part of this venture has been profoundly rewarding. It has also reaffirmed my belief in the transformative power of community support and female empowerment!
I urge you to show your support for Boqoradda by exploring the carefully selected collection of products, including bags, skincare, accessories, jewelry, and more, available to order via the Instagram page: Boqoradda (@boqoradda – With delivery available locally in Somalia, please feel free to DM us for more information!
This year, we hope to expand the online store to Uganda, where Faiza is currently located. We’re thrilled to launch a second online shop, catering to Queens across the country. We’re also gearing up to expand Boqoradda to the UK, where I’m currently channeling my creativity into sewing and crafting fashion pieces. Our ultimate goal? Extending the online store and our reach to other countries, spreading the message of empowerment far and wide.
Navigating the online business landscape in Africa especially for women, poses significant challenges. However, witnessing us thrive as entrepreneurs fills me with immense joy and serves as a hope for aspiring females in the region. I hope you are inspired by the journey so far and that you pursue your passions relentlessly, overcoming obstacles with unwavering determination!
I’m incredibly proud to support and champion Faiza and the brand as we aim for greater success globally in this entrepreneurial journey! I invite you to join me in sharing her story with the world. Together, let’s empower individuals across borders and make a positive impact on the world.
